How can we stop great teachers leaving Education?

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

We’re in the education sector, and what does that mean?

It means that there is a culture of people who

commit a huge chunk of their life and energy to a sector that is fuelled by stress, finish lines that feel like they can’t get touched. Teachers notoriously carry the responsibility for children and colleagues and without the mindsets to cope with this, the consequence is heightened illness, stress and leaving the industry.

So what can you and your SLT do in order to start making a change?

For now, this cultural way will not disappear overnight, we don’t quite have the magic wand that we all dream about. (We are working on it in the lab!)

What we are inviting great leaders in times like this to do, is start to zoom out more and step away from their team for a moment. To look at the bigger picture to ensure that they are equipped to catch, and cope with the teachers and pupils emotional and academic challenges.

In a recent meeting with over 100 of our teachers in Pit Stop Education Programme it became clear that over 90% of them felt that they were not sure what a powerful mindset was.

We heard:

“you can say ‘I feel good to someone or even myself’ but the truth is I am exhausted"
“If we say how we feel, then we risk people thinking we are letting them down.”

In our conference on Friday 23rd June 2023 in Norfolk, UK We will be sharing with you how to transform this cover up culture of pretending to be ok and what questions to ask in order to really understand where your team is at. More often than not it is not what you say to lift your team up it is:

  • How to ask powerful questions

  • Know how to hear the underlying truth of your team (our survey shows over 80% teachers dim down the truth to their SLT)

  • How to come back from any response uniting everyone in the room.

What mindsets do your team or pupils have that you feel frustrated, stuck or unsure with?

Let us know.
